The Mikado – Adults’ Night Out
Adults’ Night Out at the Portland Puppet Museum returns for four nights only with Ping Pong the Panda’s adult spoof of Gilbert and Sullivan’s “The Mikado.” Our most popular adult show promises a hilarious evening of wine, puppets, and unforgettable songs!
The evening program begins with a half hour party, complete with a Wine and Cheese tasting meet-and-greet before the show.
This is a show of young love, government corruption, corporal punishment, and a tad bit of blood-thirsty-ness thrown in for good measure. Transforming sets, contemporary adult jokes, beautiful music and yes professional singing all blend together seamlessly to take you on a magical journey of adult puppetry into the gutters of Ancient Japan with our zany panda friends. So, if great music and comedy is your thing , come out and have a drink on us and check out this amazing, hilarious show.
Tickets are $25.00 each, ages 21+.
Witch Key
So many folks that have purchased our DVD movie “Witch Key” have told us they would love to experience “Witch Key” live in person with their children and families. So, this October we are going to do just that for four special performances. Come join us and cheer on Sterling as he rescues Prince Aaron.
Little boys can often get into so much trouble, and so it is with our little Prince Aaron. How did he get himself locked into a cage by Enchantra the Witch? I don’t think he likes the idea of being a snack for her Dragon either. Can his babysitter, Sterling the Court Jester, find the key to the cage and free him in time? Witch key is it? Could it be hidden deep in the enchanted forest or perhaps in the mysterious palace of the Queen of Hearts? Be prepared to boo and hiss for our Jester as he fights to save his Prince. The performance is 32 minutes in length. Perfect for the entire family!

Live Stage vs. Movie Puppetry – Adults’ Night Out
Join us for a fascinating evening as two local producers battle out the age-old question! Which is better: live action puppetry or movie screen puppetry? Can they both exist in this CGI AI mad world? After all, how hard can it be to create a full live puppet show, or for that matter a puppet fantasy film? Oh, do these two have stories to tell!
Steven M Overton has been in the puppet business for over 50 years, with film and stage credits in the world of puppetry from Disney, 20th Century Fox, Showtime, to the Grim television series shot in Portland. He is joined by Michele Brouse Peoples, Actress. Comedian. Director. Teacher, working in Portland Musical Theater, Portland Parks & Recreation, Gresham Little Theater founder, Gresham Parks & Rec and the Olde World Puppet Theatre and “Folger” Shakespeare Theatre in D.C.
The evening starts with a cocktail party and tour of the live stage show production Witch Key, that appeared across the Western United States and Canada for over 30 years. This is followed by a viewing of the short half hour fantasy film Witch Key the DVD.
Zombies and Goddesses – Halloween Performance and Party
This Halloween we invite you and your family to join us on a magical journey to an old abandon Parisian movie theater. Step inside if you dare and join Melvin, a lovable zombie and former movie usher, on an unforgettable journey through the world of puppetry. Melvin is swept into a mystical journey, when two mysterious goddesses suddenly appear transforming Melvin into the many forms of puppets while traveling across cultures and thousands of years of storytelling. This show is perfect for families and adults with a sense of humor and wonder!
So come in costume, folks; each ticket supplies you with a great family comedy as well as a Halloween Treat bag filled with stickers, pins, toys, and candy of course!
